For the second year in a row, a Boston College men’s hockey captain is our Male Athlete Who Best Embodies the Characteristics of a BC Eagle. This year, the award goes to Eamon Powell, who was nominated alongside men’s basketball player Quinten Post and baseball player Vince Cimini.
Powell led a young Boston College team to a phenomenal season this year, helping his Eagles to win the Hockey East regular season and the Hockey East Championship. He also led the Eagles to the NCAA Championship game and to a 34-6-1 overall record. Powell played a role on both offense and defense for BC, leading a defensive group made up largely of sophomores and freshmen while also recording 5 goals and 32 assists.
Powell’s stellar leadership that helped this team to their best season in years is one of the reasons that he best embodies what it means to be an Eagle, but his overall loyalty to BC is another. While Powell certainly could have signed a professional contract, likely starting out in the AHL, he instead has chosen to use his COVID year to return to Boston College for a 5th season. His return is going to be a massive asset for the Eagles as they look to win even more trophies next season.
