Cutter Gauthier is our male player of the year, after a record-setting season for the men’s hockey sophomore. Also nominated was Gauthier’s fellow teammate Will Smith.
At the conclusion of his freshman season, most folks didn’t expect Gauthier to announce a return to BC for his sophomore year. Though it might not have been his original plan to play for a second year, Gauthier made the most of the opportunity and emerged as a leader on a young Eagles team, drowning out all the outside noise. He became a player that the Eagles could consistently rely on for goals, and displayed immense growth on both sides of the ice.
With 65 points in 41 games, Gauthier was second on the team in scoring this year. His 38 goals led the entire country, and tied David Emma and Scott Harlow for most goals scored in a season in program history. Gauthier also became the 84th Eagle to hit the 100-point mark, achieving it during NCAA Regionals. He was named a Hockey East First Team All-Star, as well as being selected to the CCM/AHCA All-America First Team.
In addition to leading the Eagles to a Hockey East regular season trophy, the Hockey East Championship trophy, and the National Championship game, Gauthier also led Team USA to a gold medal at the World Juniors in January as an alternate captain. USA Hockey awarded him the 2024 Bob Johnson Award for his excellence in international competition after leading the World Juniors tournament with 12 points.
He was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as well, and was the recipient of both the Walter Brown Award and USA Hockey’s Jim Johansson College Player of the Year Award. After a hugely successful sophomore season as an Eagle, Gauthier signed his Entry Level Contract with the Anaheim Ducks and made his professional debut in April, tallying an assist in his first NHL game.
