BC plays this game every year in honor of Welles Crowther, a Boston College alum who sacrificed his life to bring others to safety on September 11th, 2001 in New York City. Crowther has been an inspiration to the entire Boston College community and beyond since his heroic acts that day and is the true embodiment of BC’s mission of “men and women for others.”
Michigan State is a premier opponent for Boston College, though MSU is going through a transition period for their football program. Their former head coach Mel Tucker was ousted from his position in September of last season after facing allegations of sexual harassment, as the team went 4-8 overall. Now they are entering the 2024 campaign with a new head coach, former Oregon State head coach Jonathan Smith.
Also included in the Boston College announcement were other themed 2024 gamedays. The list includes the Family Weekend game on September 28th vs Western Kentucky, and the Homecoming game on October 25th vs Louisville.
