On Friday night, the Boston College women’s lacrosse team faced off against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, a match-up between the #3 and #2 teams in the country. BC lost a one-goal game to the Irish just last month, but now in the ACC Tournament, the Eagles came out on top for a 9-7 win.
This was a close game from start to finish. Neither team led by more than 2 goals all the way into the fourth quarter. Notre Dame got out to an early 1-0 lead, but the Eagles quickly scored three in a row to take a lead on the first quarter. From there on out, it was a back-and-forth match with Notre Dame tying it back up 4-4 at one point, but BC always seemed to have the slight edge in scoring.
Emma LoPinto came up huge down the stretch, scoring three times in the second half to help keep the Irish at bay and extend the lead to 9-5. Goalie Shea Dolce was as impressive as usual too, making 8 saves on the day and surviving a late ND push when Cassidy Weeks took a late penalty.
Next up, Boston College will look to win their second-straight ACC title. They will face off against the #4 Syracuse Orange at 12pm on Sunday April 28th. BC eked out a close OT win against the Orange at the end of the regular season, and they’ll look to do so again on Sunday afternoon.
