Our staff isn’t deterred by the losing effort
Curtis: Unfortunately we didn’t quite get the result we wanted on Saturday, but I definitely think we can take away some positives from how BC performed. Their scoring drives were super solid and the defense had a good start & end to the game, even if they struggled to contain Missouri’s offense for some extended stretches. What did you guys see?
Curran: I think the end of the first half doomed the upset attempt. We had a great start, putting Mizzou in a big hole early, and benefited from some fluky plays (see: TC to Reed Harris magic). Then Castellanos turned the ball over, and Mizzou put up a quick 10 points to flip the game on its head. I give BC a lot of of credit for hanging in tight in the second half — though statistically Mizzou pretty handily outperformed the Eagles, at the end BC could have a shot to win the game in the final minute had we gotten a third down stop. That was a really good team we just lost to, and the talent difference just wore on BC as the game went on. With that said, there are a lot of positives here. BC has now played a really bad FCS team, a really bad P4 team (I cannot stop laughing at FSU), and a really good SEC team. I’m excited for BC to get into its ACC schedule in some coin-flip games and see how much noise we can make.
Kieran: I agree with Curran. BC and Castellanos showed a lot of really good things against Missouri — things they can build on going forward. I don’t think anyone gave BC much of a shot to win that game, much less make it as close as they did. Missouri is a very talented SEC squad with loads more talent than the Eagles, but you wouldn’t really know it based on the way BC fought to stay in the game. This game gave me a lot of hope about what this team can do against ACC opponents.
Niraj: Really hard fought, just a few too many lulls on offense in particular. That middle eight of the game, BC gave Mizzou the opening and they took advantage. Credit to the team for keeping that manageable and nearly giving us a chance at the end. Nearly every other year this past decade, that game ends in blowout fashion. Heads up high, excited for things to come
