If Bill Belichick lands another head-coaching job in the future, he may need to find a new right-hand man.
Berj Najarian, the former director of football/head coach administration for the New England Patriots, is expected to join Boston College’s staff for the 2024 season.
According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, Boston College is hiring Najarian to be its chief of staff. He’ll reunite with former Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien.
After this news broke on Thursday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter referred to Najarian as the “man who was at Bill Belichick’s side during all his years in New England stays in Boston.”
Belichick has so much respect for Najarian that he once referred to him as “the consigliere of the New England Patriots.”
Najarian spent the last 24 years with the Patriots. Moving on from the organization couldn’t have been easy, but at least he’ll remain in Boston.
Boston College has to be thrilled that its poaching some of the top minds from New England’s football team. A combination of O’Brien and Najarian could help the program reach heights it hasn’t seen in several years.
As for Belichick, it looks like he’ll spend the 2024 season unemployed.
