O’Brien was one of BC’s top candidates and the school was able to close on him over the last 24 hours. He takes over for Jeff Hafley, who left to be the defensive coordinator of the Green Bay Packers.
O’Brien was Ohio State’s offensive coordinator for only a few weeks before taking this new gig. He now takes over a BC program that went 7-6 this past season.
Before he was OSU’s offensive coordinator, he had been with the New England Patriots as their offensive coordinator during the 2023 season.
He also served as Alabama’s offensive coordinator in 2021 and 2022 after he was the head coach of the Houston Texans from 2014-20. In seven seasons as head coach, he went 52-48 and led the Texans to the playoffs four times.
He’s also been the head coach at Penn State (2012-13) and finished his tenure with a 15-9 record.
