USC grad transfer Derryck Thornton has committed to Boston College, his father told ZAGSBLOG.
“Education and style of play,” Tank Thornton, Derryck’s father, said in a phone interview. “A Master’s from Boston College is a beautiful thing.
“And style of play. They play through their point guards and we’ve been looking for that since he left high school.”
Thornton visited BC in May and also visited Gonzaga.
The 6-foot-3 Thornton averaged 7.7 points and 4.3 assists last season. BC will be his third school after spending his freshman season at Duke.
“They’re going to play fast,” Tank Thornton said of BC. “Everyone’s going to get easier shots. He’s going to lead with positivity and they’re going to try to do everything in their power to win games. He’s going to try to bring a lot of leadership,”
Thornton effectively replaces Ky Bowman, who left for the NBA Draft.
“Don’t get me wrong, Ky Bowman was awesome and he was a great leader, too,” Tank Thornton said. “So we’re just going to try to carry on the tradition of what Jim [Christian’s] done with his guards. Jim’s done amazing things with his guards.”
Following 2 free throws, @DerryckThornton has his 1st career double-double!
