The past couple seasons have featured some significant rookie talents in Boston College’s offense. Although the Heights are certainly a place where development and experience are paramount, the Eagles have found several gems who have forced their way onto the field as freshman. Two years ago, it was Joe Griffin Jr. who saw plenty of playing time, racking up 234 yards and five touchdowns — including the clutch game winner over #16 NC State, one of the better BC Football moments in recent memory. This past season, Jaedn Skeete emerged as a potential star and a guy who could really breakout this coming season.
Though the smaller size of BC’s 2024 freshman class is well-documented, there are still several names to keep an eye on.
Receivers:
The lone wide receiver in this class is 3-star Cedric Lotte Jr., out of Mesquite, TX. BC was his only P4 offer, but what instantly stands out about Lotte is his size at 6’5 and 200 pounds. With the depth BC has at receiver, combined with Lotte’s need for development, I’d expect him to redshirt. With that being said, when he does make the field he could be a serious problem. Ryan Boultwood joins Lotte as the only other pass-catcher in the class as a 3-star TE out of California. Boultwood faces a similar season lookout as Lotte, with guys like Jeremiah Franklin, Kamari Morales, and Matt Ragan all ahead of him on the depth chart. He will gain valuable mentorship from especially Morales, and will make an impact down the road.
Running Back:
Turbo Richard arrives on the Heights via Rock Hill, SC. An 85-graded 3-star, Richard has both a high ceiling after averaging 96 yards per game in his senior year of high school. At 5’10 and 207 pounds, Richard is a bowling-ball type back that the staff are very excited about.
Offensive Line:
The strongest group of offensive recruits, and the group I think is most likely to produce an early-impact player, is the offensive line. Jadon Lafontant (85-grade 3-star), Pape Sy (89-grade 3-star) and Judah Pruitt (85-grade 3-star) are all quality adds. Lafontant flipped from Kentucky, while Sy (BC’s highest-ranked recruit in the class) committed out of the NFL Academy in London. Sy is absolutely massive at 6’6 and 300 pounds, and though he is a very raw prospect he may have the highest ceiling of the three. Sy and Lafontant were also the only early enrollees for spring ball, while Pruitt arrived in the summer.
Quarterback:
BC’s quarterback of the class is 85-grade 3-star Johnathan Montague Jr. Montague is the 45th ranked prospect out of North Carolina. A mobile QB with a strong arm, he will be the fourth or fifth signal caller on BC’s depth chart as he adjusts to the college game.
