Bill O’Brien has a little more time to set up his coaching staff heading into year 2, and the first piece has moved into place. Per Pete Thamel, Jordan Thomas is expected to come on board as the team’s new defensive line coach. Thomas has been with the Browns for the past three season as an assistant defensive line coach.
In last week’s press conference, new Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel mentioned O’Brien as a key mentor breaking into the NFL coaching ranks with Houston. Vrabel, father of BC alum Tyler, said he’s looking to repay the favor as much as he can with O’Brien up at nearby Chestnut Hill. Having spent the past season consulting with the Browns, looks like his first assist will come in the form of Thomas.

Thomas played defensive line at San Diego State back in 2013 and soon made his way back to the program coaching as a GA in 2018. Prior to the Browns, he was line coach with the Aztecs from 2020-2021.
Jeff Comissiong coached the position group this season after previously having coached the same group with BC from 2007-12. Last week, Thamel reported Comissiong would not be returning to the program. The Boston College defensive line group took a big step from the prior year, largely thanks to one Donovan Ezeiruaku and his All-American campaign. But the likes of Cam Horsley and Quintayvious Hutchins also had strong seasons.
Welcome to the Heights, Coach Thomas!
