Boston College once again failed to put together a complete game, this time blowing a 20 point lead.
The Eagles got off to a hot start, benefiting from multiple Cardinals miscues. Quintayvious Hutchins picked off Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough and the Eagles were in the end zone a few plays later. Castellanos found his tight end Kamari Morales wide open for a long touchdown. They again capitalized on great field position off a missed FG by Louisville to double the lead early in the second quarter. Hutchins again pulled his best Cameron Martinez impression recovering a fumble to set BC up for yet another score.
Kye Robichaux ran in a short touchdown and the Eagles were in business. But things quickly began to falter. A missed extra point was all the spark Louisville needed. Shough led the team on a 10 play 76 yard touchdown run to get on the board before half.
Louisville opened the scoring in the second half with a field goal to make it a 10 point game. The Eagles were struggling to get pressure, but coverage was enough to bend not break. BC’s offense found a little bit of a rhythm with running back Treshaun Ward. Ward took over the next drive and led the team with 64 yards rushing and 81 yards on three catches. He brought BC down the field, setting up a touchdown pass from Castellanos to Jeremiah Franklin to make it 27-10.
From there, it was all Louisville. Shough found receivers wide open and the Cardinals would score touchdowns on three of their next four possessions. Shough finished 28/38 with 333 yards. Castellanos on the other hand, failed to find a rhythm, and came up hobbling in the second half after picking up a few yards rushing. He ended 13/28 for 164 yards.
BC had two last chances but were stopped on downs on both. In the final drive, BC struggled to move the ball and ended up with a poor Hail Mary attempt out of the end zone.
Bill O’Brien’s team gets another week off before welcoming Syracuse to Chestnut Hill.
