A New Leader for the Eagles
Name: Chas Kelley III
Position: Guard
Year: Junior
Number: 00
Height/Weight: 6’3, 185
Hometown: Houston, TX
Last Season: Kelley continued his role as one of the first guards off the bench for the Eagles last year. He did draw seven starts, but primarily served as the backup point guard, averaging 15.4 minutes per game (a slight uptick over his 14.7 minutes two seasons ago). His averaged stayed relatively consistent, hovering around the 35% shooting mark from the floor with a roughly 25% mark from downtown. His season highlight was definitely his 13-point, 5-rebound performance against St. John’s. BC will need a lot more of that from Kelley this year.
Season Outlook: Kelley is now a veteran on the Eagles and has been very candid about trying to grow into a leadership role. He certainly has his coach’s trust on and off the floor. He will start at the 1, and he will need to be an effective floor general for the Eagles this season. I also want to see his shooting averages go up. He simply will not be effective playing starter minutes while shooting below 40% from the floor. BC needs him to be a spacer when the ball is not in his hands. On the defensive end, Kelley has all the tools. He just needs to put them together.
