After an injury last season, Payne will get a shot to show what he can do
Name: Fred Payne
Position: Guard
Year: Sophomore
Number: 5
Height: 6’1”
Hometown: Grambling, LA
Last Season: Payne injured his knee just a few games into the 2023-24 season at BC. He came into BC as a three-star recruit, the 31st combo guard in the country, and the 21st overall prospect in Texas.
Season Outlook: Now that the BC backcourt (and rest of the team) has shifted so much, Payne will have a real shot to play some important minutes for Boston College this season. He’ll be competing with a lot of fellow guards like Donald Hand, Chas Kelley, Dion Brown, Roger McFarlane, Joshua Beadle, and more for playing time, but Payne seems about as likely as any of the other young guys to earn minutes. Fans shouldn’t expect him to be a starter right out of the gate, especially with some veteran transfers coming in, but if he has recovered well from his injury and can get back to his old playing level, he’ll be a competitor in the BC backcourt.
