The Boston College Eagles fought the odds tonight to skate to a 3-3 tie tonight, despite the fact that BC entered the game without Lukas Gustafsson, lost Aidan Hreschuk to a major penalty when he retaliated after a missed Lowell penalty, and then lost Eamon Powell to injury. The Eagles also had to fight against referees who seemingly called every little thing on BC and nothing on Lowell.
The Riverhawks too a 1-0 lead just over 5 minutes into the game, but Andre Gasseau tied things up before the end of the first.
Lowell then took a 2-1 lead after the refs missed a penalty when a Lowell player tried to take out Ryan Leonard, and then went up 3-1 later in the period. BC was able to tie the game up before the second period ended thanks to a Jake Sondreal feed to Mike Posma for a goal and then a beauty from Gabe Perreault.
Neither team was able to score in the third, and the Eags were clearly exhausted due to being down so many players and having to kill so much penalty time. This game officially goes down as a tie, but Lowell will get an extra Hockey East point after “winning” the shootout 2-1.
