Despite being double-digit underdogs, Boston College managed to upset No. 24 SMU in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl this Thursday.
Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos wasn’t particular great through the air, completing 11-of-18 passes for 102 yards with an interception. He was stellar on the ground, however, rushing for 156 yards and two touchdowns.
The defense for Boston College also showed up in a major way this Thursday, allowing SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings to complete just 50 percent of his pass attempts.
Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley was understandably emotional about the win.
“It was pretty emotional for these guys when you got to take one final knee,” Hafley said, via ESPN. “It was special. … For all the ups and downs we had during the season to finish like this.”

With the win over SMU this afternoon, Boston College will finish the 2023 season with a 7-6 record.
SMU, on the other hand, dropped to 11-3. Mustangs coach Rhett Lashlee told reporters that his team’s loss doesn’t diminish all they accomplished this year.
