Boston College women’s basketball played a strong game across the board this afternoon, defeating UMass Lowell by a score of 91-53. The Eagles shot 55.2% from the floor and made 9 blocks and 12 steals. Andrea Daley and T’Yana Todd led BC with 18 and 17 points respectively, and freshman Lili Krasovec had a breakout game with 11 points.
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead, helped by the fact that JoJo Lacey has found her 3-pointer and hit a pair from behind the arc in the first 5 minutes of the game. The Riverhawks began catching up late in the first, capitalizing on some missed shots by BC to grab rebounds. Another 3, this time from Kaylah Ivey, helped the Eags push their lead back up to 7. BC ended the first quarter with a pair of free throws from Andrea Daley, making it 23-14 after 10 minutes.
Both teams struggled to score coming out into the second quarter. Dontavia Waggoner broke the scoreless streak with a pair of free throws just under 2 minutes into the quarter, but the first field goal didn’t come until Lowell scored about 20 seconds later. After a messy start, the Eagles did pull it back together and with 3 minutes to go in the half they led by 19. That 19 point lead held thanks to a buzzer beating layup by T’Yana Todd and BC went into halftime leading 45-26 and shooting 52.9% from the floor.
The Eagles kept the offense rolling to start the third quarter, as Andrea Daley scored on their first possession and then Todd immediately forced a turnover and scored again. Todd then hit a trio of 3s as the quarter went on, putting BC up 62-34. BC got a little foul-happy late in the third, but the Eagles lead was large enough by that point for it to not make much difference when they hit the limit. A 3-pointer from Ivey gave the Eagles a 30 point lead heading into the final period with a 71-41 score.
Teya Sidberry then opened the fourth quarter with a 3 point to put BC up 74-41. The Eagles continued to play aggressively on offense and defense, not letting their huge lead make them complacent. With 2:07 to go Lili Krasovec hit a basket and a free throw to put BC up by 41 points, BC’s largest lead of the game. BC ended the game with a 91-53 victory.
