The Eagles are 2-0 to open the season after dominating Sacred Heart tonight for a 102-58 final score. There isn’t that much that can be said about a nearly 50 point victory, but here are a few key takeaways from the matchup…
The Eagles continue to be slow to warm up: Just like on Monday night, BC was a bit slow to start out offensively. A pair of 3s from Kaylah Ivey jump-started the Eagles offense in the first quarter, but BC had another slow start in quarter 2. By the second half, however, BC had things well in hand. Obviously a slightly slow start wasn’t an issue tonight, but it’s hopefully something the team will get a handle on before conference play begins.
Three pointers continue to be a big story on both sides: The Eagles let Sacred Heart take 17 3 point attempts, but were lucky that only 5 went in. Meanwhile, BC hit 9 from behind the arc and Ivey went 3-for-3 on 3s.
Aggressive defense was a pro and a con tonight: The Eagles continue to be a very strong team on defense, and that aggressiveness helped them to limit Sacred Heart’s chances, force 26 turnovers, and back Sacred Heart into taking offensive fouls. However, the Eagles also struggled to control their fouling at times tonight. They hit 5 team fouls less that 2.5 minutes into the second quarter, and multiple players hit 3 personal fouls before the end of the game.
BC’s passing game is strong: One thing that stood out tonight was how clean BC’s passes were. The Eagles were quick on passes without rushing, and they didn’t make mistakes on those passes. In fact, BC ended the game with just 8 turnovers.
Players to keep an eye on:
- After a quiet season opener, Dontavia Waggoner was back to herself tonight. She ended the game with 15 points, 4 assists and 4 steals.
- Andrea Daley hit 2 from behind the arc tonight, despite looking a bit hesitant to take 3s. She has the shot, so hopefully her confidence in taking 3 point chances starts to grow. Daley had a strong game overall, with 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals.
- Teya Sidberry returned to the court tonight, and her impact was felt. She added 11 points and 7 rebounds for BC.
- Tatum Greene continues to impress, and certainly doesn’t look like a rookie. Fans should be really excited to see how her game grows this season.
Next up, BC will close out a 3 game home stand as the take on Northeastern this Monday afternoon.
