Tommy Castellanos heads to the bench.
Approximately a day and a half ago, our very own Curtis Flannery asked the question, “Is It Time to Bench Thomas Castellanos?” that has weighed on every Boston College Football fan’s mind over the past couple of weeks.
On Tuesday, we got an answer. At his post-practice news presser, head coach Bill O’Brien announced that Grayson James would take over as the team’s starting quarterback.
Bill O’Brien: “I think what’s best for the team right now is for Grayson James to be the starter. Tommy has done a great job for us. He’s an awesome competitor. We have a lot of respect for Tommy. Obviously he wasn’t real thrilled with that. He’s taken a couple days.” pic.twitter.com/U9wBweXFiH

James took over early in the second half against Syracuse and although he was not asked to do much, he led the offense to three straight TD drives (including the 4th and 1 play-action score to a wide-open Jeremiah Franklin). He finished the game completing 5/6 attempts for 51 yards and a TD. Castellanos was 2/7 with a TD and an interception.
The move comes following Castellanos’ struggles in recent weeks. His progress as a passer early in the season slowed, while his threat as a runner never reached the heights of last year. James will now get the opportunity after leading BC to wins over Western Kentucky and (partially) Syracuse.
