On Monday evening, the Boston College men’s basketball program and guard Donald Hand Jr. announced together that Hand intends to stay at BC for another season. With a handful of other players entering the transfer portal, and the debacle that happened last season, this is huge news for the program entering the 2025-26 season.

Hand was Boston College’s leading scorer and rebounder this past season (15.7 PPG, 6.1 RPG) and was one of the bright spots in a dark year. His scoring ability often kept BC afloat in close games and he served as an important spark plug for the Eagles’ offense overall. Hand had some crazy stretches over the course of the season, including an overtime performance against UNC in which he hit a flurry of three-pointers from Curry range to keep BC in the game, and a 31-point performance in a close win over Florida State in February.
I know it can seem like a sad state of affairs when BC fans are celebrating the return of a homegrown player after just two full seasons, but this is the transfer portal era we now live in. Earl Grant’s roster completely fell apart last offseason and is continuing with more departures in the past few weeks, but Donald Hand’s return is a huge positive step forward to build this program back up.
