On Friday morning, CBS’s Jon Rothstein reported that Boston College men’s basketball head coach Earl Grant will return next season for his fifth year at BC.
Boston College AD Blake James tells me that Earl Grant will return as head coach next season.

Earlier this morning, we explained why we think this is the wrong decision. Grant has had just one winning season in four years at Boston College, zero seasons above .500 in the ACC, and this past season has been his worst one yet.
Blake James is taking a cautious approach to this job. BC basketball is in the absolute gutter as a program and is unable to draw much talent through recruiting or the transfer portal. It makes sense to take a long-term approach and allow a head coach to establish his own culture over the course of several years, but is Grant really the one that should be doing it? Despite some moderate success last season, Grant’s coaching ability has often come into question as the Boston College team repeatedly shoots themselves in the foot and can’t establish a rhythm on offense. With just one potential young star on the roster (Donald Hand Jr.), it’s not looking like this program will be competitive for a while.
