Florida State, led by veteran coach Leonard Hamilton, has put together a decent season to date. Although their recent losing streak has taken the shine off of their 13-5 start, Hamilton’s squad will look familiar — very long, very physical, and very athletic. Guard/wing Jamir Watkins does a lot for this Seminoles team. He leads the team in scoring at 18.1 points per game, while also collecting 5.0 boards, 2.2 assists, and 1.5 steals. With Roger McFarlane and Elijah Strong’s statuses still unclear, how Grant will try to contain Watkins will be key in this matchup. The other matchup of interest: 6’11 Malique Ewin, averaging 13.8 points and 7.9 boards per game, against Chad Venning down low. Venning’s ability to take advantage of 1-on-1 matchups down low has opened up all kinds of options for BC’s offense in recent weeks; they will need more of that here. Moreover, Venning will need to stay out of foul trouble against Ewin. I’m also interest in how Dion Brown plays against the long FSU perimeter defense; after a monster offensive performance from Brown last week, I want him to stay aggressive and look to make things happen with the ball in his hands.
