I’m Gonna Say It. Boston College Could Make the College Football Playoff.
What to Watch For
- Long possessions and no dumb turnovers. Like I mentioned in my preview last week, this is going to be crucial for BC all season long. They need to dominate the game clock with their ground-and-pound offense, establish long possessions with methodical first downs, and avoid any messy turnovers. We saw that structure fall apart for a bit against Missouri last week, and it ended up costing them the game.
- Contain Aidan Chiles. Michigan State’s quarterback is a young dual-threat who isn’t afraid to sling it deep. The Boston College defensive line needs to make sure he stays in the pocket and force him through his progressions, not allowing him to get loose and improvise.
- The fans! This game could be a very close one, and the atmosphere is sure to be rocking on a Saturday night. I’m going to be looking out at all of those BC Superfans clad in red paisley, who will be making noise and could even help swing this game in the direction of Boston College.
Tailgate Treat of the Week
Today I’m going with the Wicked Easy from Sam Adams. It’s a tasty session IPA, and you can pound a bunch of them before heading into the stadium on Saturday night. ‘Nuff said.
Prediction: Boston College 27 Michigan State 24
I still believe! It was disappointing to see the Eagles lose their first game last weekend, but the signs are still clearly there that this is a much improved football team that’s ready to rumble against any opponent. With the backing of the crowd behind them, against an easier opponent, and celebrating one of BC’s greatest traditions, I fully expect a vibe-shift on Saturday night. This is the beginning of their march towards destiny!
