On Thursday night, the Boston College football team returns from their bye week for some weeknight action against Virginia Tech! After a hot start to the year, the Eagles fell back down to Earth against Virginia two weeks ago, losing 24-14 after not scoring any points in the second half. The Hokies will likely prove to be even more of a challenge, but with a week off to work on their game, can BC rebound with a win?

What to Watch For
- Break down the Hokies’ offensive line. BC’s pass rush is one of their strengths, and VT’s OL is one of their weaknesses. If Donovan Ezeiruaku and friends can get to the quarterback early and often, it will go a long way towards a Boston College victory on Thursday night, especially considering VT quarterback Kyron Drones struggles to make quick downfield passes.
- Get the running backs going again. Despite a strong start to the season, the Boston College running game has gone pretty quiet these past few weeks. The Eagles need to start getting a bigger push in the trenches, shove it down their opponents’ throats, and control the clock. VT’s run defense is vulnerable enough to let that happen, while their pass defense is much stronger.
- Get started early. The bye week should have been a good opportunity to gather some thoughts and come out against VT with some new energy. The Hokies have really struggled to open their games with tenacity and it led them to losses against Vanderbilt, Rutgers, and Miami. Maybe Boston College can do the same.
Tailgate Treat of the Week
October? Night game? In Blacksburg? Now that’s spooky. I’ll go with a Jack O’ Pumpkin Ale.
Prediction: Virginia Tech 27 Boston College 17
Unfortunately I think this is going to be a midseason dip for the Eagles. Virginia Tech is much stronger than their 3-3 record would indicate, and I have a feeling that the Hokies are going to be looking to make a statement. Thomas Castellanos and crew are just too inconsistent at this point to bet on a BC win.
