What a thrilling ending!
On Tuesday night, the Boston College men’s basketball team matched up with the Boise State Broncos for the championship of the the Cayman Islands Classic. Both teams had escaped the semifinals with very close wins and were looking to take home the trophy tonight after drama once again ratcheted up late. But it was Boston College who came away victorious in this one, winning 63-61 in dramatic fashion.
The game was back and forth the entire way, with BC and BSU trading leads several times throughout the game. The Broncos did control the score for a few long stretches, though, including midway through the second half when BC could only muster five points in five minutes of gameplay. But the late resurgence came soon after, as Joshua Beadle and Roger McFarlane hit a flurry of shots to bring BC back into the lead with just five minutes left to play.
In the final minutes, Chad Venning hit a free throw line jumper to take BC’s biggest lead of the game, 5 points. That was followed by an impressive defensive possession by Roger McFarlane, who was doing a great job of switching onto multiple ball-handlers and forcing a contested three. But Boise wouldn’t be silenced, as Boston College committed some untimely fouls that allowed the Broncos to inch their way up on the scoreboard while BC missed a bunch of free throws themselves. Those BSU free throws gave them a 1-point lead with 12 seconds remaining. BC ran a play for Joshua Beadle in the corner to close out the game, and he hit the tough fadeaway three-pointer to give BC a 2-point lead! Boise missed their ensuing buzzer beater attempt and Boston College came out victorious with a 63-61 win of the Cayman Islands Classic. Here’s the highlight:
