On Wednesday night, the Boston College men’s basketball team traveled across the country to play against Stanford in one of their last remaining games of the 2024-25 season, sitting on the absolute brink of elimination from the ACC tournament. The Eagles were never quite able to find an offensive spark after the long travel, falling 78-60 to Stanford, breaking their two-game winning streak and falling even further away from the postseason.
The first half was completely marred by long scoreless droughts for Boston College. They started out with an almost seven minute stretch from 17:09 to 10:30 in which the Eagles scored only 2 total points. Then again a stretch from 8:27 to 3:21 in which BC scored ZERO total points. And then from 2:28 to 18:30 in the second half, Boston College once again managed ZERO total points. They entered halftime trailing 39-19 and the game never really even seemed to be in question.
The tenacious defense that helped BC get their last two wins seemed much less effective out in California. Eagles defenders could not stop Stanford center Maxime Raynaud from inside or outside the three point line. He absolutely dominated the smaller BC players and racked up 23 points on the evening to go along with his 10 rebounds. Other Stanford players like Oziyah Sellers and Chisom Okpara also had plenty of success attacking the paint and scoring effeiciently, something BC could just not do on the other end.
With such a dud of a first half, the slight rally BC tried in the second half got them basically nowhere. So when the Eagles went completely scoreless in the final three minutes of the game, it was a merciful ending to a mess of a game. Next up, Boston College will stay in NorCal when they face off against Cal on Saturday night.
