
On Thursday afternoon, the Hobey Baker Memorial Award Foundation announced the Hobey Hat Trick for the top-3 finalists for the 2025 Hobey Baker Award. That list included Boston College sophomore forward Ryan Leonard, Denver sophomore defenseman Zeev Buium, and Michigan State junior forward Isaac Howard. The Hobey Baker Award is given annually to college hockey’s top player, similar to how the Heisman is awarded in college football.

Leonard had a great season leading his Boston College team to a #1 national ranking in the Pairwise. Leonard led the nation in goals scored (30) and game-winning goals scored (9) for a top-10 offense this year. He also finished with the 10th-most points in the nation and led some of the top forwards in shooting percentage, converting on 15.7% of his shots.
For comparison, MSU’s Howard finished 3rd in the nation in goals, 5th in points, 20th in game-winning goals, and shot 15.4% Denver’s Buium had a big impact on the blue line while racking up the 2nd-most assists in the nation and scoring the 11th-most points. The award winner will be announced at Frozen Four weekend in St. Louis, Friday April 11th.
