Former second-round pick Cam Robinson is entering the final season of a three-year, $55 million contract, and the Jacksonville Jaguars appear to be preparing for life without the veteran. Entering the NFL back in 2017, the Alabama product has been a reliable presence as left tackle since he first joined the club. However, nothing lasts forever, and there are reasons to believe his time with the Jaguars is coming to a close.
After injuries limited him to just nine games in 2023, backup Walter Little made a compelling case to keep the starting job. According to Pro Football Focus, Little’s 58.8 grade wasn’t too far behind Robinson’s 65.4 mark. With first-round pick Anton Harrison locking down the other side, Jacksonville could make Little the starter and trade Cam Robinson for a decent return.
Bleacher Report believes that the Jaguars should trade Cam Robinson to the Kansas City Chiefs. The reigning Super Bowl champions have a glaring need at left tackle and could use a steadying presence in their starting lineup.
Chiefs, Jaguars Linked In Cam Robinson Trade Rumors
The Chiefs have a strong offensive line with a weak link at left tackle. Donovan Smith had an inconsistent year and recent reports indicate that he won’t be back in 2024. With no clear replacement on the roster, Kansas City should be willing to trade for a proven veteran like Cam Robinson as they go for their third Super Bowl in as many years.
The Jaguars, meanwhile, have a financial incentive to trade Cam Robinson. According to OverTheCap, the veteran currently carries a $21.9 million cap hit, but they can clear $17.3 million with a trade. Seeing as the team already has cheaper answers at tackle, this money could go towards a Brandon Aiyuk extension.
Of course, if the Jaguars are willing to trade Cam Robinson, the Chiefs wont be the only teams interested in making a deal. While nobody will give up a high draft pick for his services, the following teams could kick the make an offer for the veteran.
Possible Destinations
New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints need an offensive tackle in the worst way. With Trevor Penning underwhelming and Ryan Ramczyk battling injury, this team needs to consider a Cam Robinson trade. Derek Carr is one of the worst quarterbacks in the league against pressure, and he won’t survive the current tackle situation. Robinson can immediately step in at left tackle while a rookie like JC Latham can man the right side.
New England Patriots
Nobody knows whether Jacoby Brissett or a rookie will start for New England in 2024. However, no matter who it is, they’ll have a hard time succeeding with the current offensive line. With Trent Brown gone, the Patriots need to find a left tackle. Cam Robinson might be the best option available, and the Patriots have the cap space to easily accommodate a trade.
Los Angeles Chargers
Jim Harbaugh wants to create a tough, physical football team, and that starts with building a sturdy offensive line. Rashawn Slater is one of the best left tackles in the game, but the right tackle position leaves something to be desired. Cam Robinson spent his career on the left, but that shouldn’t stop the Chargers from pursuing a trade. Enough players have made the switch from left to right in the past, and Robinson’s presence would free up Los Angeles to take Malik Nabers with their first-round pick.
Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans are going to use their first-round pick on the best offensive tackle on the board. However, tackles rarely thrive as rookies, so this team could use a stopgap in case their whoever they select needs time to adjust to the NFL. The Jaguars won’t want to trade Cam Robinson to a division rival, but they might not have a choice if Tennessee makes the best offer.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens face the unenviable task of trying to replace over half of their starting offensive line in one offseason. The team lost Kevin Zeitler and John Simpson to the open market and traded Morgan Moses to the New York Jets. Cam Robinson can’t replace all three players, but the trade candidate could slide in at right tackle. With that position addressed, Baltimore can focus on finding cheaper guards in free agency or the NFL Draft.
