The New York Jets were reportedly open to Aaron Rodgers returning as quarterback, but newly-hired head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey had a few stipulations for the legendary signal-caller.
Per The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Rodgers flew to New Jersey to meet with the new regime last week and was told he would no longer be able to do outside media appearances, including regular season appearances on “The Pat McAfee Show.”
He’d also have to attend all mandatory practices with the team. Russini wrote:
The tone of the meeting was much different than when a Jets contingency recruited Rodgers two years ago. Glenn and Mougey were not contentious, but they were clear regarding what the expectations for Rodgers would be. A team source viewed it as a necessary step in emphasizing a higher level of accountability that would apply to every player on the roster.
There was no word on how Rodgers reacted to the reported stipulations presented by the team.
On Sunday, NFL insider Jay Glazer reported that the Jets are moving on from the future Hall of Fame quarterback. The Jets falling apart is obviously a good thing for the New England Patriots, who finished dead last in the AFC East last season.
They’ll still have to find a way to get past the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills. However, they appear to be well on their way to climbing back into contention with Drake Maye at quarterback, Mike Vrabel as their new head coach and more money to spend than any other team in the offseason.
