The Patriots left Chicago with a 19-3 victory on Sunday.
Their 19-3 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday brought some personnel changes to the Chicago Bears. As was announced by the organization on Tuesday, offensive coordinator Shane Waldron has been fired.
A former Patriots assistant, Waldron arrived in Chicago earlier this offseason to take over the offensive from Luke Getsy, who was himself relieved of his duties. Led by Waldron and first overall draft pick Caleb Williams, the unit showed some promise early on in the season. However, it ran into repeated issues following the Bears’ Week 7 bye.
The low point came against the Patriots. Besides allowing just three points, New England held Waldron’s unit to a mere 142 yards, kept them at 1-of-14 on third down, and sacked Williams nine times.
Waldron was already on the hot seat entering Week 10. His unit’s disappointing showing versus the Patriots sealed his fate.
“After evaluating our entire operation, I decided that it is in the best interest of our team to move in a different direction with the leadership of our offense,” head coach Matt Eberflus said in a statement provided by the team. “This decision was well-thought-out, one that was conducted deliberately and respectfully.”
In Waldron’s place, the Bears named passing game coordinator Thomas Brown their new offensive coordinator.
As for the Patriots, they will return home in Week 11 to take on the Los Angeles Rams.
