New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick made history this NFL season. It’s just not the type of history he wants to be known for.
After dropping the Patriots’ regular-season finale this past Sunday, Belichick’s career record dropped to 302-165. While his winning percentage remains very impressive, his 165th loss puts him in a class with Jeff Fisher and Dan Reeves.
For years, Fisher and Reeves owned the most regular-season losses (165) in NFL history. If Belichick continues coaching next season, he’ll break away from their three-way tie and become the sole owner of this record.
If we add playoff losses into the equation, Belichick is tied with Dallas Cowboys legend Tom Landry in that department (178 total losses). That would also put him in a tie for first place.
Whichever way you slice it, Belichick will eventually own the record for most losses in 2024.

Belichick met with Patriots owner Robert Kraft this Monday to discuss his future with the organization.
According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, Belichick will need to “lay out a firm plan to dramatically improve the on-field product” when he meets with Kraft once again this week.
