Bill Belichick didn’t want to discuss anything regarding the New England Patriots’ Spygate scandal in Apple TV’s docuseries about the franchise.
He didn’t want to add fuel to the fire even though it’s been over a decade and a half since the scandal.
“Yeah, again, that’s all in the past,” Belichick said. “I’ve made my comments on that. I don’t have anything to add.”
The Patriots were caught filming the New York Jets’ signals in Week 1 of the 2007 season and were fined $250,000, plus stripped of a first-round pick. Belichick himself was also fined $500,000.
That scandal didn’t stop the Patriots from going 16-0 that season and coming within a game of being just the second team to ever finish a full season undefeated.
They were 18-0 heading into Super Bowl XLII before they lost to the New York Giants by three, 17-14.
Despite losing that game, Belichick still led the Patriots to six Super Bowl titles during his 24-year reign as head coach. He also led them to the playoffs 18 times before he and the team parted ways after the 2023 season.
He finished his tenure with a 266-121 record.
