Despite their abysmal record (2-9), the Patriots are still playing mind games at this point in the season.
For the past few days, Bill Belichick has been awfully quiet when asked about the team’s quarterback situation. With kickoff roughly 48 hours away, he’s still withholding information.
“I’m not going to announce starters at any position,” Belichick told reporters Friday.
Patriots reporter Mike Giardi had this to say about Belichick’s decision: “Chess/checkers although the rest of us have moved on to the 21st century.”

This is the second time this week that Belichick refused to comment on his starting lineup.
“I’m not going to make any announcements on our lineup at any position,” Belichick said, via Boston.com. “So, it doesn’t matter what the position is. We’ll see how practice goes, see if everybody is ready to go. Hopefully everybody is ready to go, see what the injury situation is, and we’ll go with who we think is best on Sunday.”
The Patriots could roll with Mac Jones at quarterback this Sunday against the Chargers, but that seems unlikely. If he’s not the answer, Belichick could start Bailey Zappe or Malik Cunningham.
