Whenever there’s a late-round pick or an undrafted quarterback who finds quick success in the NFL, the first comparison that usually comes to mind is either Kurt Warner or Tom Brady. For Giants head coach Brian Daboll, Brady was the one that a media member tried to use on rookie sensation Tommy DeVito.
Following last night’s thrilling win over the Green Bay Packers, one reporter tried to bait a comparison between DeVito and Brady, citing Daboll’s presence on the New England Patriots when the team drafted Brady in 2000. But Daboll wasn’t having it and promptly cut off the question.
“We’re four games in,” Daboll said, referring to the number of starts DeVito has.
Brian Daboll was asked today about being on staff in New England when they made Tom Brady the 199th pick in the 2000 draft. He cut off the reporter respectfully.

Every NFL team wants to be the one that finds that GOAT-sized diamond in the rough like Brady or Warner – a player who everyone else overlooks until late in the draft or even undrafted who winds up being the best at their position for a generation.
Tommy DeVito has played well these past few weeks (albeit against teams that are fringe playoff contenders at best and downright bad at worst) and could have a bright future in the NFL.
But people are putting the cart way before the horse if they’re trying to mention DeVito in the same breath as Tom Brady.
