The veteran offensive tackle was let go by the Patriots in late August.
Veteran offensive tackle Calvin Anderson has found a new home.
A little over three weeks since the New England Patriots released him off their injured reserve list with a settlement, Anderson has signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo was first to report the news.
Anderson, 28, originally joined the Patriots as a rookie free agent in 2019 but was released shortly thereafter. He later spent time with the New York Jets and Denver Broncos before returning to New England in 2023. In total, he accumulated 46 in-game appearances with 14 starts.
Signing a two-year, $7 million contract with the Patriots in March 2023, Anderson rejoined his former club in hopes of competing for the vacant right tackle position. However, he ended up playing only five games with two starts after running into some health issues.
He started off on the non-football illness list after contracting malaria on an offseason trip to Africa, and later ended the year on injured reserve due to a heart contusion he suffered in practice. Anderson was hopeful to return to form in 2024, but rarely managed to move past backup status in his first ever training camp as a Patriot.
Eventually, the team placed him on injured reserve ahead of roster cutdowns. He was let go from the list a short time later as part of a three-week injury settlement.
With those three weeks over, Anderson — now a regular free agent — worked out for the Steelers on Monday. They promptly signed him.
