Cornerback Alex Austin doesn’t know what the future holds for him with the New England Patriots, but he knows he’d love an opportunity to return for another season.
Austin is entering the 2025 offseason as an exclusive rights free agent, which means his future with the Patriots is still up in the air.
He has become a dependable player for the team in the secondary. In two seasons with the team, he has recorded 18 tackles, seven pass deflections and an interception. The Patriots signed him in November 2023 and quickly assimilated him into the defense.
“Only place I want to be man.. I’m just controlling the controllables,” Austin responded to a fan on X, when told to stay in New England.
Austin is one of the many free agent decisions the Patriots have to make as they look to retool and reshape their roster. One would think the team would consider bringing him back to avoid losing depth at the cornerback position.
Veteran cornerback Jonathan Jones is also a free agent this offseason. Austin might not be an All-Pro player, but he is an improving player who could add stability to the backend of the Patriots’ defense.
