New England Patriots fans still haven’t forgiven lead personnel executive Eliot Wolf for passing on Los Angeles Chargers star rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey in the 2024 NFL draft.
The Patriots were in position to take McConkey with the 34th overall pick, but they traded back with the Chargers in the second round with Wolf instead choosing to select Ja’Lynn Polk with the 37th pick. It’s too early to write the book on Polk’s NFL career, but so far, it looks like one of the worst draft decisions by Wolf in franchise history.
McConkey had more receiving yards against the Patriots in Week 17 than Polk had all season. Polk finished his rookie campaign with 12 receptions for 87 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, McConkey racked up 82 receptions for 1,149 yards and seven touchdowns for the Chargers.
His incredible playoff performance over the weekend was like salt in the wounds for Patriots fans with him hauling in nine receptions for 197 yards and one touchdown. It once again sparked frustrations for Wolf’s decision to pass on McConkey and draft Polk.
