The New England Patriots have already hired their replacement for Bill Belichick. On Friday, they promoted linebackers coach Jerod Mayo to head coach.
Fox Sports radio host Colin Cowherd addressed the Patriots’ coaching change on the latest episode of “The Herd.”
Cowherd doesn’t really like this move for the Patriots. That’s because he thinks the franchise should’ve brought in someone with new ideas rather than sticking with “The Patriot Way.”
“The Patriots have hired one of their own, linebackers coach Jerod Mayo. His nickname is Bill Jr. His entire career was in New England. It would not be my first choice,” Cowherd said. “He’s a defensive head coach – you know how I feel about that. It’s a lame, talentless offense. Good luck for a linebackers coach trying to solve it.”
Cowherd continued, “It feels like the Patriots are adding a new chapter to the same old book.”

Mayo played for the Patriots from 2008-2015 before joining their staff in 2019. If there’s anyone who knows what the organization wants from its head coach, it’s him.
The Patriots will officially introduce Mayo as their new coach next week.
