New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft had a meeting with Bill Belichick this Monday. Moments ago, we received an update on their conversation.
According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, Belichick and Kraft’s meeting on Monday was described as just an “initial discussion.” They won’t talk about the future of the franchise until later this week.
“The expectation is they’ll meet at least once more, league sources said,” Howe wrote. “Kraft was not expected to reach a decision Monday.”
Howe added that Belichick will need to “lay out a firm plan to dramatically improve the on-field product.” Apparently, his plan could include former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

For what it’s worth, Belichick somewhat addressed his future following the Patriots’ loss to the Jets in Week 18.
“I’m under contract,” Belichick said, via CBS Sports. “I’m going to do what I always do which is every day I come in and work as hard as I can to help the team in whatever way I can. That’s what I’m going to continue to do. … As far as any decisions or direction or anything like that for next year is way too early for that.”
If Belichick remains the head coach of the Patriots for another season, the team will need to show drastic improvement. Anything else would be unacceptable.
