Not many quarterbacks have gone from the Canadian Football League to the NFL and found success through the years. But Doug Flutie is one of them and he had a message for the latest CFL quarterback to get his shot in the NFL.
On Tuesday, the New England Patriots signed quarterback Nathan Rourke off wagers from the Jacksonville Jaguars. Rourke played the previous two seasons for the BC Lions, earning the CFL Most Outstanding Canadian Award in 2022.
Flutie similarly played for the BC Lions in between his stints in the NFL, with two runs in New England. So when he heard that the Patriots were bringing on another Lions quarterback, he decided to show Rourke some love.
Taking to Instagram, Flutie congratulated Rourke on his new team on the NFL Canada account.
“Awesome. Congrats. Good luck Nathan,” Flutie said under an NFL Canada post. “CFL.”
Nathan Rourke has yet to take a snap in an NFL game, so it’s a little too early to predict if he’ll wind up being the next Doug Flutie, Joe Theisman or Warren Moon.
But his chance to earn his spot on a roster could very well come with the QB-needy Patriots.
