There has been plenty of trade talk surrounding Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, and the receiver-needy Patriots have been at the center of it.
One ESPN analyst explained why New England would be the perfect fit for the former Super Bowl MVP.
“I’m going to go with the New England Patriots, who have some cap space to work with. And when you look at the quarterback Drake Maye, he’s a young, promising prospect. I like the way he played in his rookie season in the time he was out there playing,” NFL analyst Harry Douglas said on ESPN’s “SportsCenter,” as transcribed by NESN’s Sean T. McGuire.
“When you look at Cooper Kupp, a guy that’s sure-handed, reliable, can be an extension of the coaching staff on the football field. Very, very smart, a Super Bowl champion and a quarterback’s best friend. So I’m going Cooper Kupp to the New England Patriots and Drake Maye will be very, very happy as well.”
This is not the first time that an ESPN analyst has believed that the former All-Pro wide receiver and New England would be a perfect match. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler also wrote a piece detailing how others around the league viewed Kupp and the Patriots as a good fit for each other.
Kupp would give the Patriots an experienced and reliable receiving option for Maye. It would be helpful for a team looking to get an efficient offense up and running again.
It isn’t just Kupp’s talent the Patriots would be after in this scenario. He’d also bring leadership to the locker room, and he could help mentor the younger receivers on the roster.
The Patriots need to make moves this offseason, and Kupp would certainly be a good place to start.
