After 24 seasons, the New England Patriots finally decided to hit the reboot button at head coach.
Bill Belichick was a six-time Super Bowl-winning coach, but the sad reality was that the team was spinning its wheels under the old ways. They only made the playoffs once since Tom Brady left, and they got absolutely obliterated in their one postseason game by the Buffalo Bills.
The team finished with a 4-13 record last season and missed the playoffs for a second straight year. That prompted owner Robert Kraft to make the difficult decision of splitting with the greatest coach of all time and hiring Jerod Mayo as his replacement.
Mayo comes with a lot of unknowns as a first-year head coach. He also inherited a roster severely lacking in proven talent. It could take years for him to turn things around.
