By nearly all accounts, New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones has lost not only the faith of Bill Belichick, but the majority of the locker room as well. With one year left on his contract, the Patriots seem far more likely to trade him than extend him in 2024.
On Thursday, NESN’s Jason Ounpraseuth presented a list of NFL teams that could be viable trade options for Jones in 2024.
“Jones is owed $2.8 million in 2024, and it would be a shocker if his fifth-year option is picked up. However, it’s unclear if it’s wise for New England to retain the third-year quarterback as a backup next season,” Ounpraseuth wrote.
So the end result is a list of five teams that could The five teams are the San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams.
There’s cases to be made for all five teams. For the Rams, Browns and Broncos, it’s having a quarterback who has become too injury-prone to be effective. For the 49ers and Giants, it’s renewed uncertainty at the position despite success in 2022.

But if Mac Jones does get the axe, such a move would most likely come after the Patriots make a final decision on the status of head coach Bill Belichick.
