Boston College coach Bill O’Brien was clearly high on Drake Maye when speaking about the New England Patriots quarterback in an interview with Mass Live’s Karen Guregian.
“He’s an exciting player. You can see the talent,“ said O’Brien, the Patriots’ former offensive coordinator. ”He’s got what I call a golden arm. He can make all the throws. He can anticipate, and he can run. I think that’s a big key.”
O’Brien isn’t alone in his thinking.
Multiple coaches and players on opposing teams had great things to say about Maye throughout the season. Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay called Maye a “stud” at quarterback. Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel admitted he was even more impressed after seeing Maye’s game up close.
Maye’s arm talent will be put to the test next season by coach Mike Vrabel and the new staff.
The Patriots have a chance to surround the former North Carolina standout with more offensive weapons in free agency and the draft. If they manage to do so successfully, that will put some of the pressure back on Maye and his golden arm.
