Fresh off the completion of his playing career, James Ferentz is jumping right into coaching.
The former Denver Broncos and New England Patriots offensive lineman is joining the New York Giants’ staff as an assistant offensive line coach, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.
Ferentz, 34, is getting involved in coaching after announcing his retirement last month. The former Iowa standout spent 10 years in the NFL, the first one on the Houston Texans’ practice squad before cracking the Broncos’ roster in 2015.
After appearing in 21 games and winning a Super Bowl in his two seasons in Denver, Ferentz moved on to New England, where he spent the next seven years.
With the Patriots, Ferentz played in 40 regular season games and started 10. He also helped the team win Super Bowl LIII, giving him his second ring.
The son of longtime Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz, Ferentz played under new Giants offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo and New York’s head coach Brian Daboll while with the Patriots.
During his retirement announcement on Feb. 19, Ferentz thanked former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia for the opportunities they gave him, as well as the towns of Foxboro and Norfolk, Massachusetts for being his family’s homes during his time with the franchise.
