Schooler was voted to his first Pro Bowl this week.
For the first time in his career, Brenden Schooler has made the Pro Bowl. The former rookie free agent was voted as the AFC’s special teamer, a fact that he learned about in a surprise meeting with New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo.
“I was just thinking, like, ‘What does he know on me that I don’t know.’ It was just trying to figure out if I said anything silly or did anything silly for him to call me in and get mad at me,” Schooler later said.
“But once I came in there and saw all the rest of my special teams coaches and Matthew [Slater] in there, I knew that something had happened. Hearing that from Coach Mayo that we’re going to the Pro Bowl this year was a pretty cool and special feeling. So, to be able to come in the last week of the season and get an award like this and share that moment with my coaches and my teammates, it was awesome. I don’t think I would want to spend it with anybody else.”
Schooler is the Patriots’ lone Pro Bowl representative this season.
