Jacoby Brissett loves what he sees from New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo.
Mayo is in his first season as head coach after taking over for Bill Belichick at the end of the 2023-24 season. He’s running things his own way and Brissett is a big fan of it.
“He brings a lot of good energy,” Brissett said, (first transcribed by ProFootballTalk). “The cool thing is you can tell he’s trying to make the players on the team run the team. Obviously, he’s the head coach and he sets the standard, but he definitely puts a lot of responsibility on us players. I like it.”
Brissett is the favorite to start at quarterback even though the Patriots recently drafted Drake Maye with the third overall pick. They may want to keep Maye on the bench to learn from Brissett.
It would allow him to keep developing while biding his time.
Brissett spent the 2023 season with the Washington Commanders and appeared in three games, compiling 224 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Prior to joining the Commanders, he spent one season with the Cleveland Browns, one with the Miami Dolphins, four with the Indianapolis Colts, and one with the Patriots.
He was last with the Patriots in 2016 and appeared in three games, finishing with 400 yards through the air.
In eight NFL seasons, Brissett has thrown for 10,574 yards through the air, 51 touchdowns, and only 23 interceptions.
