The New England Patriots officially introduced Jerod Mayo as their new head coach this Wednesday afternoon.
As you’d expect, Bill Belichick’s name was brought up during Mayo’s introductory press conference.
Mayo made it clear that he’s not trying to copy everything Belichick did in New England, telling reporters, “I’m not trying to be Bill.”
Even though Mayo won’t try to be Belichick, he acknowledged that he learned so much from the six-time Super Bowl champion.
“I think Bill is his own man… But what I will say is, the more I think about the lessons that I’ve taken from Bill [is]: Hard work works, and that’s what we’re all about,” Mayo said.

Mayo knows all about “The Patriot Way.” He was a linebacker for the franchise from 2008-2015 before joining the staff in 2019.
If Mayo can establish his own culture in New England while replicating the success Belichick had in the 2010s, he could be the head coach of the Patriots for a long, long time.
