A few weeks ago, Tom Brady didn’t exactly rule out a potential NFL return. But Patriots head coach and former teammate Jerod Mayo isn’t holding his breathe that if it happens it’ll be in New England.
Speaking on WEEI Radio this morning about the prospect of Brady’s return, here’s what the 38-year-old had to say:
I love Tom, and the door is always open if he wants to come in here and coach. But as far as going on the field, I don’t know. But if he comes in here, once again, going back to the ‘hey, the best player will play,’ you’ve gotta come in here in compete, and he loves competition. I doubt he’s gonna be walking through these doors any time soon.
We just knew he couldn’t stay away for long though, right?
When the seven-time Super Bowl champ appeared on an episode of “DeepCut” with VicBlends, he twice reiterated that he wouldn’t rule out coming back to play pro football.
“I’m not opposed to it,” Brady said. “I don’t know if they are going to let me if I become an owner of an NFL team. I’m always going to be in good shape. I’ll always be able to throw the ball. So, to come in for a little bit, like [Michael Jordan] coming back, I don’t know if they would let me. But I wouldn’t be opposed to it.”
It’s a bit crowded right now in Foxborough but there are surely some teams that wouldn’t mind taking a flier on the GOAT for a season or two.
