Former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was excited for Matt Patricia to become the next defensive coordinator for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He posted a congratulatory message on his Instagram story after hearing the news.
“Huge get for the program. Congrats Matty P,” Edelman posted.
Patricia officially accepted the job on February 12, replacing Jim Knowles, who left for the defensive coordinator job with Penn State.
Edelman worked against Patricia’s defenses extensively as one of the Patriots’ longtime key receivers. He knows what Patricia brings to the table as a defensive coach, and he believes it’ll translate well at the collegiate level.
The Buckeyes are hopeful it does considering they’ll be the hunted next season as defending national champions.
Patricia at Ohio State could be a good match for both parties. The Buckeyes get an experienced defensive coach who has won Super Bowls, and Patricia gets an opportunity to start fresh with a defensive unit that already has a solid foundation in place.
