The Patriots have not won back-to-back games in two years.
The 2024 New England Patriots don’t have a lot of experience when it comes to winning football games.
At 3-7, they are carrying one of the worst records in the NFL into their upcoming Week 11 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams. What they do have, though, is momentum.
Coming off a 19-3 win over the Chicago Bears that might just qualify as their best victory so far this season, the Patriots seemingly are headed in a positive direction. Now, it’s about being able to take that foundation and finding a way to build on it — something the team has not been able to do after its first two Ws this year.
Will third time be the charm for New England? That will be seen on Sunday, but head coach Jerod Mayo is making sure to steer the ship in the appropriate direction.
“I’m going to continue to stress to the players, to the team, to the coaches, it’s having a sense of urgency and really learning how to win,” Mayo said on Wednesday. “We haven’t had a back-to-back win this year. We’ve lost multiple games in a row, so we know that side of it. Now we’ve got to figure out how to turn the page after a win and get a victory.”
Both of the Patriots’ victories in Week 1 and Week 8 were followed by overtime losses. The first was a 23-20 defeat at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks, the second a 20-17 road loss to the Tennessee Titans.
In both games, the Patriots were in a position to win but between ultimately made too many crunch-time mistakes to come out on the right side. In order to prevent history from repeating itself against the Rams, Mayo is hoping for improved consistency not just on game day but in the week leading up to the contest as well.
“We turned the page this morning, and they’re ready to go,” he said about his team. “We need a good week of practice. It can’t just be one day. It can’t be up and down. We need a good week of practice to go out here and give ourselves a chance to win this game.”
For the Patriots, a win on Sunday would give them their first back-to-back victories in two years. The last time they accomplished that feat came in November 2022, when they won three in a row.
